Bikers
for Christ in the 80's were known in a big way for being involved in rallies,
putting on rides and a little bit with evangelism in the areas of youth,
below are some old Bikers for Christ photo's that have been dug out of
the archives and dusted off the best we could with a photo editing program,
we were also very much involved in the MRA and copped our fair share of
flack from them about being Christians but it was always in good jest
from them and we worked together well.
This
page may take some time to load so be patient as it is worthwhile to see
how different it was in the 80's from now, Insurance fees and the such
have closed down many little social bike clubs and the rally scene in
Queensland is all but vanished, in the 80's you could go to a rally at
least once a month and then go on a club ride in between where you would
have anything up to 20 bikes in each club. I suppose we have all gotten
old now and everyone has joined the Ulysses, they are the only ones left
and are huge in Australia, There is always a Ulysses ride to go on every
week with a branch near you, check out some of their web sites, run a
search on Ulysses Australia and find a branch near you.

Border
Ranges rally in the middle of winter where temperatures would hit
below the 0's, the ride in was pretty hairy too as there were many
creek crossings. The pic is some BFC Members having a time of prayer
just before dinner and sunset. |

Rainforest
Rally at Kenilworth was one of the favourite rallies for all riders
with anything up to 300 staying over, if rallies got too big the
outlaw clubs tended to take them over, this is Roscoe and Diesel
in the gymkhana on an old XV 750 Yamaha. |
|
Another
Gymkhana event with Roscoe and Wombat this time, Gymkhana events
back then are unlike today, you had to be first in first serve to
get in, a total gymkhana would go for anything up to 3 or 4 hours
due to elimination stages. |

A
halfway stop on a BFC Ride up through the Queensland / New South
Wales ranges. Our rides were monthly as they are now but used to
go for anything up to 400Klm's per day, it seems not many can hack
it now, such is the younger generation. From Right to Left is Mark,
Dave, Christine and Donna. |
|
From
Left to Right is Esther, Tino and Brett, I assume Brett is trying
to teach Tino how to do a wheel stand on a bike as Brett had an
XJ 900 Yamaha and I could probably count on both hands how many
time he had the front wheel on the ground, he was forever doing
wheel stands and is still widely remembered today for that reason
and no other. On the other hand, Tino rode a GPZ 750 and there was
no one in the club who could catch him, he should have been a racer
I reckon. |

From
right to left is Nola and Max, Dave and Trumpy Ken, Max and Nola
came from Gympie which is north of Brisbane and became a part of
Bikers for Christ for a short while then went on to Christ's Ambassadors
CMC, Max passed away around 1994 and it brought back together many
mates who rode together over the years, he died of a massive asthma
attack at a young age and is sadly missed by many. |

Esther
and Tino with their GPZ 750, even though we could not keep up with
him, Esther helped us a bit by slapping Tino in the back of the
head if he went to fast for her, at times we would watch him take
a corner wondering if he was still in control or laying it down
for a slide, a very good rider and we never saw him ever once go
down! |

Wombat,
Gigs, ( I can not for the life of me remember the dogs name), every
man on his bike used to ride with a dog on their tank but eventually
it was outlawed as an "obstruction" and police came down
heavy so the dogs all left home unhappy not being able to ride no
more, looking at this picture I got no idea why they would call
it an obstruction? Looks to me he was holding the tent on for them!

One
of the many old houses we used as a club house where we would have
home church, prayer meetings, BBQ's and basically just turn up for
a coffee, this one was out in the Samford valley and very popular
just for the ride, Dave and a few other guys rented this one but
many of us slept there overnight on the floor for something to do
and often would take off from there on some mystery tour and see
if we could get lost in the mountains - never happened. |
